November / December 2008 News
Point Defiance - November opened up with a small trek to Gig Harbor. It was a day for the short handed crew of Thom, Aubre, Marty, and Eric...but that does not mean that it was not fun. We got to practice anchoring for the following weeks LeMans race, and got to go through a number of spinnaker changes. The race quickly became Gardyloo's second DNF of the year, as we just could not fight the tide....
November 8 - LeMans. We ahd a good start, unfortunately, we had to go back and start again (Blame that one on Eric...) But after a rain storm before the start, the weather turnd out great. A slight shortage of wind at the start made getting out of the harbor a slow go... But then the wind picked up for a quick run to Ollala, and then a great beat back to the Harbor. Thanks to all of you for coming along, and we will try to improve on our 4th in class finish next year.
November 15th - Brown's Point - what was suppose to be a tour of Commencement Bay quickly (Wait, not exactly "quickly") turned into a drift to the first mark about 3 miles from the start. With one of our largest crews to date at 9 (Jimmy, Tim, Thom, Krista, John, Lora, Marty, Aubre, and Eric), we were able to keep the boat going fast enough to come home first for the race. In the end, we lost a close battle with the new Kahuna for the series and end up in second. A great series overall.
December 6th - Winter Vashon - It was a great day for sailing, but no reuslt to show for it. We challenged all the boats in our fleet, and had some success to start the series off. We will go into Duwamish Head ready to start the series again........
