News from January 2009
January Boatwork - The engine compartment fan now works, electrical panel has been replaced, the wiring finally organized the way it should be, and the systems checked out. Also, the KVH instruments have been removed to make way for the new Nexus NX2 system orderd at the end of the month.
Quartermaster Shuffle - January 24th OK, for the record, at least the start brought entertainment to many people. We (OK, I....) hit the mark, turned around, and spotted the fleet a pretty good lead. Oh, and then we snagged a stick (well, not quite a LOG, but pretty darn big). Then there was the stuff wrapped around the rudder........... And now, back to the race. We eventually caught up with the fleet and fought our way into the harbor in a light breeze. Eventually turned the "weather mark" in second at tried to run down Kahuna. Eventually, the wind died again, and we ended up finishing second at Mazanita. The weather was nice,a nd there was some good breeze for a while... all in all a good day on the water.
Duwamish Head Race - January10th It was a pretty eventful race for Eric, Gary, Thom, Tim, Jimmy, and Geoff. Started out a bit slow with the spinnaker up, but quickly got entertaining (OK, we spun out during a gybe). Top speed for day was 14 Knots just before Alki Point. We were second to D-Head, and second to Blakely Rocks. Then the wind held in the upper teens, but we were able to reel in the Cheetah 30. We continued to lead the fleet until John Hoag's Snake Eyes caught us at Three Tree Point. Again, we held off the remainder of thefleet to cross the line second, but corrected out to 4th behind Snake Eyes, Absolutely, and Tantivy.... Good way to start the year
